MAX HAS TO GRID AND BEAR IT

-

VERSTAPPEN was left fuming after a mishap sees him starting in eighth for the Singapore Grand Prix – potentially damaging his bid to win this season’s world championship today.

The Dutchman was on course to challenge for pole until Red Bull bizarrely told him to abort his penultimate lap and to pit. He delivered an expletive-laden rant at his team over the radio, saying: “I don’t get it. What are you saying?” But it was later confirmed that continuing would have left him with an insufficient amount of fuel for scrutinising.

Charles Leclerc beat Verstappen’s team-mate Sergio Perez with Lewis Hamilton in third.
