SALE boss Alex Sanderson said George Ford is going to have to fight for his place after watching Rob du

Preez steer Sharks to a 28-20 win over Exeter.

Fly-half Ford is out until December with an Achilles injury he suffered in the Premiership final in June playing for Leicester.

South African Du Preez kicked 13 points and Ford might have to bide his time to return to action.

Sanderson said: “Rob has been brilliant and George is going to have to fight his way in on merit.”

Sale were behind here to Luke Cowan-Dickie’s early try before reeling in Chiefs to lay a bogey to rest.

Sanderson added: “I’m proud of the physicality and getting the monkey off the back after losing four [in a row] against them.”

Exeter boss Ali Hepher said: “We were disappointed not to exert our game and Sale came with a great plan.

“They pressured the breakdown but we played into their hands a little bit.”

At Brentford, Ollie Hassell-Collins and Ben Loader both scored hat-tricks as LONDON IRISH beat BATH 47-38 to leave them winless this season.
