New manager Zerbi leaves Reds stunned

-

and they go to the Emirates a week today knowing they can ill-afford another setback.

Leandro Trossard scored a hat-trick for the Seagulls in the Anfield thriller and Reds boss Jurgen Klopp said:

“The confidence level is not extraordinary high. It’s not rocket science. We have to get our confidence back and build on it.

“We have to fight through this. The boys can play much better. I don’t know how many times today their offensive players were between the lines. It was horrendous, horrible at times to watch.

“There are different times in life where you have to fight through these times, go to work, get your confidence back. We are under pressure, we can’t ignore that.”

Klopp, facing the biggest challenge of his successful career, shares the responsibility of the sluggish start to the season.

He said:

“I’m guilty as well. I know I have to work through this.

“When we were 3-2 up I wasn’t 100 percent convinced that we wouldn’t concede. The good part of the story is 2-0 down to 3-2 up but that costs energy. The boys have come back from everywhere in the world and some haven’t played for a while.

“That makes it more difficult but we have to control games better.

‘‘From tonight we will prepare for Rangers (Champions League on Tuesday night) then Arsenal is coming.”

Trossard stunned the Kop with his treble to give new Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi a point on his first game in charge since succeeding Graham Potter.

Trossard said: “This is a big game and you want to show yourself in the best possible way. It’s a tough place to come so it’s good to get a point.”

On his new boss who had sent him a message while on duty with Belgium to score more goals he added: “You could see how passionate he is. I think we will have some good times with him.”

And De Zerbi could not hide his delight at breaking Fortress

Anfield.

He said: “A crazy game. I am happy and proud for my players and my club.‘‘
