Going green
PLANET FRIENDLY TRAVEL NEWS BY
French Waterways has taken on a new fleet member – an electric boat. The Quattro Fly C Green has a zero-emission propulsion, so it’s pollution-free and doesn’t make a sound. This avoids canals being polluted by gas and oil. It has its own generator which takes the pressure off looking for charging stations. It will sail for around six hours. There’s also a battery life indicator which monitors the time and distance you are able to cover without leaving you stranded.
Above deck there’s a spacious covered terrace and outdoor dining area including a BBQ. Below, are two cabins which sleep up to six. The silent engine will make gliding even more tranquil.

■■Meadoway in Toronto is the ambitious project in the process of turning a vast swathe of turf into an urban greenspace. Over 9.4 miles it will connect seven river and ravine systems. Some of it, including the trails, is complete and eventually there will be 15 parks and walking and cycle trails, connecting downtown Toronto to the Rouge National Urban Park. Thirteen neighbourhoods will be spread over nearly 500 acres and will be home to more than 1,000 varieties of flora and fauna as well as birdlife and butterflies.
