We need fresh start, not a grubby return ANGELA RAYNER

- LABOUR DEPUTY LEADER

BRITAIN deserves so much better than this. The Tories have trashed our institutions and crashed our economy.

The damage will take years to fix.

The economic crisis was made in Downing Street but working people are paying for it.

The Conservatives cannot be allowed to stumble out of their latest shambles and simply shuffle the deckchairs again.

In little more than three months we’ve had four Chancellors, three Home Secretaries and now we face a third Prime Minister as the human wrecking ball that is Liz Truss flies out of the revolving Downing Street door.

Having shredded their own manifesto, they have no mandate to put the country through yet another Tory experiment.

Now they offer us the choice of another unelected Prime Minister… or Boris Johnson.

I don’t know what’s worse. It’s not even panto season yet. Johnson’s record is a catalogue of sleaze, waste and lies. He made the rules and then broke them. Three sleaze watchdogs walked out on him.

He left a mountain of unusable PPE, billions written off, sewage in our rivers, not to mention broken swings, wine stains and sick on the walls in No 10.

He’s totally unfit for office. That’s what his own MPs realised when they ousted him in disgrace just months ago while he tried to cling on by his fingertips.

Now they’re so desperate they threaten to bring him back. They’ve busted the economy, and now they offer us another busted flush.

Britain needs a fresh start, not the grubby return of a failed PM still under investigation over the scandals of his last leadership.

Rishi Sunak was by his side every step of the way, while just days ago Penny Mordaunt was defending Liz Truss in Parliament. The Tories are incapable of governing themselves – we mustn’t let them drag Britain down too.

The failures of the past 12 years are plain to see. The victims of crime who can’t get justice. The people dying because ambulances can’t get to them. Millions without food or heating.

The people deserve to choose their future, and the choice couldn’t be clearer – more Tory chaos or Labour’s plan to sort out the mess, grow the economy for working people and build a fairer, greener future.

Our country deserves a fresh start. We need a general election – now.

Country deserves a fresh start ...we need a general election
