It’s stall or nothing for Carr

IF Michael Carrick was watching this, perhaps he will have second thoughts about becoming Middlesbrough’s new boss.
Carrick is on the verge of taking over at the Riverside.
But the scale of the task he will be taking on was laid bare as his prospective employers laboured to a goalless draw against Huddersfield, the Championship’s bottom team.
Leo Percovich remains in temporary charge and is waiting for guidance from chairman Steve Gibson about what happens next.
He said: “I am giving my service to the club.
“And we will keep going in the same way until things change. We always talk.
“I am just waiting for when we regroup again and then we will see if we are doing the next step.”
Percovich felt his side should have had a penalty when Duncan Watmore’s shot hit Tom Lees’ arm – but it was not given and that was as good as it got.
He conceded Boro did not do enough to seriously threaten a Terriers side who managed to keep their first clean sheet of the season.
Huddersfield remain bottom of the Championship – but manager Mark Fotheringham feels they are making progress.
He said: “We looked really solid defensively, not only in the back four, but also in the midfield five and the striker as well.
“They all worked really hard and we showed we could handle the pressure of going to tough away places like this stadium.”
