Rally pushes for rights on terminations
CAMPAIGNERS in Ireland have demanded the law be changed, 10 years after the death of a woman who was refused an abortion while miscarrying.
Savita Halappanavar, 31, died in Galway in 2012.
Following a 2018 referendum, medical abortions are available up to 12 weeks but then restrictions apply, causing women to go overseas for terminations.
Orla O’Connor, director of the National Women’s Council, told a Dublin rally yesterday: “It remains unfinished business.
“Our legislation goes against the recommendations of the World Health Organisation.”
