Once-boozy street closes its final pub

- BY KAREN ROCKETT

THE last boozer on a road that was once home to more than 200 pubs has called time.

The Throstles Nest, which opened in 1804, has been put up for sale.

The boozer, in Scotland Road, Liverpool, is just a stone’s throw from the childhood home of singer, Cilla Black.

Landlord Kevin McMullen, 78, who has owned the pub for 40 years, said it was rammed during its peak.

“You wouldn’t be able to see the door for people,” he said. “Hopefully a younger man will have a go. I would be very sad to see it close for good.”

Liverpool City Council’s Deputy Mayor Jane Corbett said the sale of the pub was a “sad moment”, as it was “a key landmark”.
