- KAREN ROCKETT

SINGLE people cannot afford to mingle and are putting off dates to save money, research shows.

People now spend longer getting to know each other online before they actually meet.

They will spend almost six hours chatting to someone on the web before agreeing to a date, Match.com found.

With travel costs averaging £21, around a third of people do not want get involved with someone who lives too far away.

A similar number also arrange dates around pay day so they can afford it.
