Home brewing soars
EMER SCULLY

CRAFT beer fans are beating the costof-living crisis by brewing their own.
Industry experts warn a £7 pint could soon be “the norm” as pubs try to recover from the impact of Covid amid rocketing energy bills.
A home-brewed pint comes in at about 50p.
Home brewing kits can produce batches of
40 pints in six weeks, with starter kits at around £50 – and demand is soaring ahead of Christmas.
Car salesman Steve Wilson
Sampson, 22, of Chesterfield, Derbys, said: “It’s easy to make and it’s great quality beer. It takes 20 minutes to put it all together. You get 40 pints a batch and it’s £20 for the ingredients. That’s 50p a pint. It’s such good value.”
Darren Byrne, MD for LoveBrewing, the UK’s largest home brew kit seller, said Fan Steve the lockdowns had caused business to triple.
Pinter, whose kit makes lager in six to seven days, started in the pandemic and is now worth £50million.
