Big shout-out to Disney
I’ve always said that if you can see it, you can be it – and that is why it is imperative that role models in media represent the diverse nature of our society.
So I have to applaud Disney, which has released a short animated film about a plussize ballet dancer.
Reflect features a girl named Bianca “who battles her own reflection, overcoming doubt and fear by channelling her inner strength, grace and power”.
I so wish this kind of inspirational film was around when my generation was growing up. Perhaps then we might not have been so hard on ourselves because we didn’t match up to the stunning supermodels and actresses on TV or in magazines.
Disney is looking at a series of films to address “issues of body image, identity, and selfesteem”.
Little things like this go a long way to making people feel good about themselves, which in turn makes for a happier and kinder world to live in.
