THE LAG DADS
Prisons allow IVF so cons get kids
EXCLUSIVE BY
JAIL bosses have allowed 60
prisoners to become dads.
The inmates were given permission to take part in IVF with their wife or partner as conjugal visits are banned.
A source said: “People will be shocked this is happening. We are pandering to some of the worst people in society.”
The con or family must pay for the treatment and prison chiefs decide on whether they can donate their sperm based on their crime, sentence, age of the con’s partner, length of relationship plus child welfare issues.
News of the practice emerged from House of Commons statistician Georgina Sturge after an unnamed MP asked for details. She said: “Piecing it together from this and that, I was able to find out the number of cases.”
The identities of those given the go-ahead were not revealed.
Aaron Newman, 31, complained in 2019 it was his human right to be allowed to become a dad. He got life in 2015 for the murder of a mum.
The Prison Service has said: “Prisoners do not have an automatic right to access fertility treatment and each request is considered on its merits.”
