Town ditches fireworks to help animals
AN annual fireworks display has been scrapped in favour of a laser show to avoid upsetting animals.
Thousands of people have attended the popular Guy Fawkes event since it started in 1974.
But organisers have decided to replace this year’s fireworks display – on November 5 – with a more animal-friendly alternative instead.
In a statement, the members of Penzance Rotary, in Cornwall, said: “We love fireworks but we love animals and the environment more. The world, and life, moves on.
“We’ve taken the view that an alternative form of contemporary display is now more appropriate.”
