Mortimer: Unaite us like in ’82

- BY JOHN WRAGG

EUROPEAN CUP winner Dennis Mortimer hopes new Aston Villa boss Unai Emery becomes a legend – just like the team of 1982.

A new film is being made about the Villans who won the league and European Cup 40 years ago.

And Mortimer, captain of that famous Villa team, said of Emery: “There are four games to the World Cup break to look at the players, judge them, then make his changes in January.

“There will be quite a few players away in Qatar, but there will be enough for him to do some work on the training pitch to get his version of Villa up and running.”

Funding for Just 14, based on a book by Villa fan Andy Dale, is under way with the preview shown to the stars of ’82.

Mortimer, 70, was at this week’s promotional event with a warning for Emery.

“I don’t like managers who run up and down the touchline,” he said.

“It’s managers saying, ‘Look at me’, but Ron Saunders never came off the bench.”
