SAUDI-OWNED Newcastle tweeted support for the Premier League’s Rainbow Laces campaign on Friday, and in came the homophobic responses – some written in Arabic.

Despite that I’ve no doubt manager Eddie Howe, the players and Amanda Staveley support this campaign.

But it’s just another reminder that in Saudi Arabia, where they will be training in December, gay people are persecuted. So Newcastle showing their support when in Riyadh would make a real point.
