It’s Swan hell of a hangover says unhappy boss Martin
RUSSELL MARTIN put Swansea’s slow start down to over-celebrating the derby win against Cardiff six days earlier.
Tommy Conway fired illness-hit Bristol City in front with his eighth goal of the season in the 24th minute, a low drive from Nahki Wells’ perfectlypaced pass.
But other good opportunities went begging and the Swans levelled in the 76th minute, substitute
Olivier Ntcham netting with a deflected volley.
Martin said: “I was very disappointed with the first 20 minutes and I think the emotion of last Sunday took its toll.
“I saw some pictures of some of the players celebrating on social media, which I didn’t like much.
“I was happy for them to go out for a drink after the Cardiff game, but perhaps in future they will cut the celebrations a bit shorter.
“It’s all about getting the balance right. The way we started today should be a lesson learned.”
Robins boss Nigel Pearson was without numerous players, four of them centre-backs, including Rob Atkinson who pulled out shortly before the game.
He said: “We have had numerous players under medication to try and control what has been an outbreak of flu in the camp.
“Cameron Pring didn’t know he was playing until Rob pulled out and did really well, as did the backline in general.”
