Mick sick as his Seasiders sink to bottom of the table

- By NEIL GOULDING

BLACKPOOL boss Mick McCarthy was frustrated his side failed to land the knockout blow needed to beat relegation-strugglers Rotherham.

The Seasiders and Millers drew a blank at Bloomfield Road, with both sides lacking a killer instinct.

It saw the hosts slump to the bottom of the table after a 13th straight league game without a win.

A point for the Millers saw them extend their unbeaten run to four games, having now not lost to the Seasiders in their last 12 meetings.

“It was a bit of a war of attrition, but I fully expected it and it didn’t disappoint me,” said boss McCarthy, who has not won in four games since replacing Michael Appleton.

“We prepared for a scrap, but I can’t knock any of the lads for the response they gave me.”

Seasiders shot-stopper Chris Maxwell produced a superb save to deny Ollie Rathbone from distance, palming away his stinging second-half drive.

But this contest lacked any quality as both teams desperately went in search of a much-needed victory.

The hosts had decent chances through winger Josh Bowler and Jerry Yates, against his former club, but neither side could find the back of the net.

“I have got mixed emotions,” said Millers boss Matt Taylor.

“Defensively we were good, very solid. But we didn’t use the ball enough.”
