A BRUTAL rapist on Poland’s list of most-wanted fugitives was able to slip into Britain and live here undetected for three years.

Bartlomiej Glanda, 28, fled his homeland in 2019 after being convicted of rape, making threats to kill and assault.

And after entering the UK, he set up home in a £300,000 two-bed flat in Edmonton, North London.

He will now be kicked out after a court ruled in favour of extraditing him to Poland to serve his jail term.

Shadow Home Secretary ATTACK

Yvette Cooper said it was concerning he was able to hide in the UK for so long.

And neighbours were shocked to learn of his past. A girl of 17 from his estate said: “It horrifies me

that he’s lived here. I always think about what could happen if I’m walking home at night.”

Another resident, a 45-year-old mum, said: “It’s frightening.”

In November 2018, Glanda got three years and three months after being convicted of a 2016 sex attack in the city of Kielce, which he filmed.

He was said to have beaten his victim in the days before the rape.

He fled in 2019 while on bail, after gaining permission to appeal his sentence. The appeal failed.

At an extradition hearing, Glanda told Westminster magistrates he had been wrongly convicted, adding: “I did not want to serve the sentence for something I did not do.”

But District Judge Nina Tempia ruled for his extradition, saying it was important “for the UK not to be seen as a safe haven for a fugitive”.

Glanda, whose lawyers have lodged an appeal with the High Court, was remanded in custody. The Home Office was contacted for comment.
