‘VICTORY WOULD BOOST THEM ALL BACK HOME’

- TOM HOPKINSON

UKRAINE keeper Andriy Lunin wants to record a victory at Wembley to dedicate to “the people suffering at home”.

The Real Madrid ace knows sporting wins do wonders for the spirits of their compatriots in the war-torn nation.

Lunin (left) said: “For my country Ukraine, Euro 2024 is very special.

“After missing out on the World Cup in Qatar, it is necessary to relaunch our football. This is the first stage and our objective is to play in the finals in Germany next year.

“The war in Ukraine continues and we want to dedicate our sporting success to the people who are suffering at home.

“We know our group is not easy, but we dream of qualifying and, with that in mind, our motivation is to get a positive result in London, which would be sensational.”

A win would be a massive shock, especially with striker Harry Kane at his happiest after becoming England’s all-time leading goalscorer.

Lunin admitted: “Kane is enjoying a big moment and he will always generate danger in an opponent’s area.

“We need to stop him doing his job, but that is not the only obstacle that faces us.

“Players such as Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham are always creative in their offensive actions. Our defenders are prepared for a busy night.

“A group containing England and Italy, with only two qualifying places, means every match is a significant battle and a final for us.

“England opened the group with a big win, but we do not fear them and will go into all our games with good morale.

“To play at a venue such as Wembley is a pleasure for any professional footballer.”
