United’s wheels are a bit wobbly...and I fancy the Seagulls to fly high at Wembley

MO HAS BIG TOP TWENTY RECORD

IT has been clear to me for some time that Mo Salah would pass my all-time goals mark for Liverpool… and in far fewer games!

Instead of resorting to the natural instinct of swearing, I should acknowledge that his statistics are truly remarkable, and without any debate put him up there with the all-time Anfield legends.

And I think that absolute fact should put his season into context. By his own incredible standards, it has been dubbed a ‘poor’ campaign — and questions have been raised about him.

Yet before even going into the Forest game yesterday, Mo (above) had scored 26 goals, and was on course to get 20 in the Premier League. Yet again.

If he does achieve that feat — which I think he will given Liverpool still have four games at home remaining — then it will be the fifth time in his six seasons at Anfield he’ll have broken the mark of 20 league goals.

The only time he hasn’t done that was 2019-20 when Liverpool won the league. Mind you, he got 19 then!

To put that into some sort of context, a player as great as Michael Owen — rightly regarded as one the best strikers Anfield has ever seen — never scored 20 Premier League goals in a season in his career.

That’s not having a go at Michael, it’s just illustrating how tough it is to get 20 Premier League goals, and incredible that Mo does it every season… which puts him up there above all those illustrious names.

So I can’t complain that he has overtaken me, and I don’t think Steven Gerrard will begrudge him the moment, probably this season too, when Salah overtakes him to go into fifth on Liverpool’s all-time list.

Sometimes, you have to realise that you’re witnessing greatness as it happens, and not constantly carp on about wanting more.
