FRASER: GRIT FIXED IT

FRASER FORSTER hailed the fight and grit Tottenham showed against Manchester United in midweek to bounce back after an “embarrassing” drubbing by Newcastle last weekend.

“It was a good 45, the second half against Manchester United, and something to build on, going into the Liverpool game,” said former St

James’ Park seasonticket holder Forster

(right), on Thursday’s come-from-behind 2-2 draw that followed Sunday’s

6-1 debacle.

“The Newcastle game was embarrassing more than anything. Disappointing. But in the second half against

Manchester United we showed what we can do. There was a lot of imperfection in the second half, but it was a good starting point — there are a lot of positives to take.

“It’s good to show the reaction. We showed a lot of fight — the lads were running, making tackles and doing the dirty side of the game as well.

“The players are desperate to make things work here and succeed. We just want to be together — players, fans, the club and everything — and move forward with a good end to the season.

“It’s fine playing nice football, but ultimately you’ve got to run, tackle, kick people. You have to do that side of it as well. That allows you the space and the time to get the ball and play football – you have to do it all.”

Team-mate Oliver Skipp echoed Forster’s sentiments and called on his pals to pick up against Liverpool where they left off against Manchester United.

Skipp added: “We know Liverpool is a new game, with new challenges, but we have to be on it from the first minute.

“We know what Anfield is like, but there is a belief we can win there – we beat Manchester

City, we beat Chelsea, so we are capable.

“It is about finding that team spirit to go to difficult places and know moments will be difficult, but then to push and dig in.”
