- GIBBS-WHITE 47, DANILO 57 AT CITY GROUND

MORGAN Gibbs-White put his fingers to his lips to silence his critics – but the relegation bells still rang out at the City Ground.

The Forest playmaker looked to have helped Nuno Espirito Santo’s men to a precious win but they failed to cling on to their hard-won advantage as Gary O’Neil’s battlers signalled they are not ready to pack their beach towels just yet.

After Matheus Cunha had scored one of the goals of the season by running from inside his own half to open the scoring, Gibbs-White gave Forest hope by nodding home, prompting a pointed celebration to the club that gave him his chance.

After the break, he then caused chaos in the visiting ranks, allowing Danilo to fire the hosts towards a victory that would have given them some breathing space from the stragglers.

With Luton being thumped at The Etihad, this was a golden chance to put distance between them and the relegation pack but Cunha poked home from a corner to leave Forest frustrated at the final whistle.

Nuno’s men will feel slightly more aggrieved as they did most of the running while Wolves’ forwards fed off scraps.

Home defender Murillo had produced the game’s main talking point before Cunha struck the first, heading off his own line to stop Joao Gomes from finding the net.

If that unsettled the City Ground, the nerves frayed still further when Wolves took the lead.

There were none of players any further upfield when keeper Jose Sa threw Cunha the ball. He was only 35 yards from his own goal when he received it. But he started running with only Andrew Omobamidele for company. And kept going.

Eventually, he cut back on himself and then took aim, the ball rocketing into the top corner via a tiny deflection. It was some strike.

Nuno and Forest needed a quick response – and they got one. Neco Williams’ corner was flicked on at the near post by Gibbs-White.

The playmaker left the travelling Wolves’ fans how he felt about the goal. It is to be expected they will not forget his gesture in a hurry.

Those goals lifted the tempo and that rose still further when Forest took the lead just before the hour.

A sloppy pass out of defence was picked up by Danilo who played it inside to Gibbs-White.

He tried to find a colleague out to his right but the ball rebounded back to him. Sensing the danger, a couple of defenders converged on the Forest man and it bounced to Danilo who continued his run to deliver a decisive finish.

But Wolves hit them with a sucker-punch moments later. Max Kilman nodded a corner into the danger zone and
