Mansfield 2 Gillingham 1 Newport 0 Salford 1 Stockport 4 Accrington 2
NIGEL CLOUGH has challenged promoted Mansfield to end the season on a high and finish second after beating Gillingham.
Goals from Davis Keillor-Dunn and Stephen McLaughlin cancelled out Timothee Dieng’s opener for the Gills. “The campaign has been outstanding and we now want to try to finish second,” said boss Clough.
Gillingham manager Stephen Clemence was largely happy, but admitted: “We ran out of steam.”
KARL ROBINSON admits Salford will have to aim higher next season to reward the investment of the ‘Class of 92’.
Matt Smith ended a four-game losing run but Robinson said: “We’re nowhere near the finished article. When you’ve got owners like us, we have a duty to pay that back.”
Graham Coughlan warned Newport: “A number of players have gone as far as they can.”
DAVE CHALLINOR was a proud man after Stockport were presented with the League Two trophy.
Kyle Wootton (two), Connor Lemonheigh-Evans and Antoni Sarcevic struck, with Shaun Whalley and
Jack Nolan responding for Accrington. Challinor said: “This is the best feeling ever in terms of being able to celebrate with friends, family and supporters.
Satisfied Accrington manager John Doolan said: “The lads didn’t give up.”
Tranmere 3 Wimbledon 2
JOHNNIE JACKSON was keen to focus on the positives despite seeing AFC Wimbledon miss out on the play-offs.
Harvey Saunders and Rob Apter put Tranmere ahead before Josh Kelly replied. John-Joe O’Toole’s dismissal then ended the Dons’ hopes and Connor Jennings added a third before Kelly’s late consolation.
Jackson said: “We’ve progressed massively.”
