Tev: Aguero set for a comeback

- BY SIMON MULLOCK

CARLOS TEVEZ has revealed that former Manchester City team-mate Sergio Aguero could still make a sensational comeback – more than two years after being forced to retire with heart problems.

Tevez, now manager of Argentine giants Independiente, is hoping that Aguero will be able to once again play for his former club after stepping up his fitness regime.

He admitted that a decision will be taken in the coming weeks, with City’s record goalscorer celebrating his 36th birthday next month.

Doctors have given Aguero the all-clear to step up his training – and Tevez insists the Buenos Aires club will take no chances with the player who made his Independiente debut when he was just 16 before a career in Europe that took him to Atletico Madrid, City and Barcelona.

Tevez (above right, with Aguero) said: “He is doing very well and is obviously enthusiastic because the doctor told him he could try it to see how he is feeling. Don’t worry, he knows what he has to do to get fit – and, once he does get fit, he will decide what he can do.”

Aguero announced his retirement back in December 2021 after being diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia when he suffered chest pains playing for Barcelona.

The Argentina star scored 260 goals in 390 appearances for City after moving from Atletico for £38million in 2011.
