Murphy calms Blades storm JAMIE GRABS DERBY WINNER

-

public with their disapproval. But Blades refuse to be bullied into any decision, stressing that up to now they have only offered Evans their facilities to train.

But a twitter rape taunt being investigated by police made against Jessica Ennis-Hill, the city’s Olympic gold medallist who announced she wants her name removed from a stand if they re-sign him, has made things more difficult.

Relieved

There were no incidents to make matters worse here. That left the teams to do the talking in a typical derby capped by a lovely 65th-minute winner from Murphy.

That came seconds after United went down to 10 men as Paddy McCarthy was sent off for a lastman foul on his return on loan. He chopped down James Coppinger following the move of the match but was then relieved to see Mark Howard brilliantly save Harry Forrester’s penalty.

“It was well struck and well saved,” said Donny boss Paul Dickov, who says neither he nor his struggling team are feeling the pressure despite only one home win.

“We are playing well enough,” he added. “We are really disappointed with the result but more than matched one of the best teams.” It was honours even until the 40th minute, with only Coppinger going close with a great shot from the edge of the area.

But from then on the Blades took command. Skipper Michael Doyle, only on as an early sub as Clough made eight changes, had a well-rehearsed free-kick deflected wide.

After the break Jamal CampbellRice claimed a penalty as his shot appeared to come off Enda Stevens’ arm, while Jose Baxter had a speculative effort turned for a corner and a 45-yard chip just over.
