Tassel do nicely Caroline Broadchurch future doubt

- By Laura Connor by Simon Boyle and Nigel Pauley

STRICTLY Come Dancing champ Caroline Flack dazzled in silver but her performance was pure gold on the first of the show’s 21-night tour.

The TV presenter, 36, and partner Tristan MacManus, 32, looked as if they would waltz away with victory on Friday night until Blue singer Simon Webbe, 36, and Kristina Rihanoff, 37, stepped in.

There was also competition at Birmingham’s Barclaycard Arena from former Towie hunk Mark Wright, 27, and Karen Hauer, 32. But the prize for maximum exposure had to go to torso flashing ex-rugby star Thom Evans, 29, dancing with Iveta Lukosiute, 34. ITV chiefs are scratching their heads over the latest Broadchurch mystery... Will David Tennant sign on for a third series?

Eight million people watched as the hit crime drama returned for its second season this month and ITV supremo Peter Fincham is hungry for more.

But insiders say Tennant, 43, who plays lead character Detective Inspector Hardy, has poured cold water on the idea.

A source revealed: “ITV’s top brass are desperate to keep Broadchurch going for another series.

“It is a huge hit with viewers and that means big money from advertisers. It has also been a huge critical success and is exactly the sort of high-quality drama they’re desperate to keep on screens.

“But it was hard enough getting David to agree to come back for the second series – and he has made it quite clear to them that he doesn’t want to keep going for a third.

“It goes without saying that the producers will do anything to try to change his mind but it looks very unlikely they will succeed.”

Thriller

It is understood co-star Olivia Coleman, 40, who plays sidekick Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller, was also uncertain about returning for a second series.

The latest story has drawn criticism from some viewers who say it is more complicated than the first series.

Show creator and writer Chris Chibnall opted for a thriller narrative rather than crafting a classic whodunnit. Last week’s instalment was 1.6 million viewers down on the opener.

Broadchurch is obsessively protective of its s storylines. Plot details are kept firmly under der wraps to prevent leaks and the castt and crew are all expected to sign n confidentiality clauses.

Actor Arthur Darvill, who plays vicar ar Paul Coates, has revealed thatt even the main in cast membersmbers werere not allowed wed to see episodes sodes beforeore broadadcasts. ts. Theyey were also given scripts which had some lines blotted out. Sources said production company Kudos held a security meeting with ITV before shooting started.

Chibnall has already hinted that this year’s run may end with the death of some major characters.

It is unclear whether that could include Tennant’s Det Inspp Hardy. Chibnall said recently:recen “Let’s wait and see if there’s anotherano series.

““Who Who knows w who will be left standing?”

Broadchurch wasw remade as Gracepoint for thet American market with TennantTenna remaining in the lead role.rol A fi first series was screenedscree on Fox in OctoberOct last year but the network revealedre last month it will not get a second.
