CARN BE SUPER LEAGUE STAR

-

Tries, Wyles, Ashton (2). Cons, Farrell (3). Pens, Farrell (4). MUNSTER: Try, Hurley. Con, Keatley. Pen, Keatley. caught up with him just before he flew out to France and we went and had a bit of a feed and I wished him all the best.

“That was before I knew I was coming to Rovers, and he was one of the first to contact me about coming over here, too.

“He’s going to be able to play his natural game and not worry about off-the-field stuff. He can focus on the field and I know he’ll cherish that.” Campese, himself, has already made an impact at Rovers, with coach Chris Chester handing him the captaincy despite being one of over a dozen new signings at the club.

The 30-year-old will lead the Robins out at the KC Stadium today and is relishing the prospect of his first Hull derby.

Campese added: “I really can’t wait. Everyone has been talking it up, and everyone in the street wants to talk about it. It’s a nice initiation for the boys playing their first game. I know the players love playing in these games, and it’s a chance for us to get our combinations right.

“It’s the first time I get to pull the jumper on and I’m excited about that and the chance to play alongside some new team-mates.”

Although he will not make today’s game, Campese has not ruled out RU World Cup-winning uncle David supporting the Robins at some stage this season. He said: “He comes here a fair bit, so it’s not out of the question.

“He lives over in South Africa now and has been pushing me to go over and see him, so if I get a few days off I might head over.

“He’s been a big supporter of mine from day one. He’s always told me to follow my heart and play the game I love – and he’s never pushed me to play rugby union at all.”
