Hunt has a ball to wreck Lions

BUT OLLIE SWEARS HE CAN REBUILD MILLWALL

-

BOSS Mick McCarthy hailed two-goal Noel Hunt after Ipswich moved up to second in the table.

The Irish striker was on target twice in the opening 14 minutes to set the Tractor Boys on the road to victory.

McCarthy said: “It was an outstanding performance from Hunty, I’m delighted with him.

“I said that when we took him on loan, and now we’ve signed him permanently I’m even happier with him. I’m really pleased with how we played and with the result.” Magaye Gueye gave struggling Millwall hop hope when he pulled a goal back just b before the interval. inte rB

But Jo Jonathan Pa Parr restored Town’s twogoal lead 13 minutes frf r om f ull tim time. “I“It was a difficu difficult day for us to c come here and do it,” s aid MC McCarthy.th “I thoughttho the crowd stuck with them and made it really difficult for us.

“They set off at a real pace but we managed to stem that and get the goals and it took the sting out of it.

“I wouldn’t have liked going into the last five minutes with only a one-goal lead – we were able to kill the game off with that third one.”

Hunt, who signed with Ipswich this month, fired under Lions keeper David Forde from close range on five minutes after Stephen Hunt lobbed a

The home side grabbed a lifeline on 42 minutes when Stefan Maierhofer flicked on for Gueye, whose shot crept in off a post.

Millwall upped the pressure after the break as they went in search of a first win at The Den since October 25. Gueye sent over a corner but centre-back Byron Webster could only direct his header narrowly wide.

Gueye was proving the main threat for Ian Holloway’s men, his 20-yard free-kick going narrowly over Bartosz Bialkowski’s bar.

Any hopes of a comeback ended in the 77th minute when Freddie Sears, on his Ipswich debut, set fellow substitute Parr free to seal the win.

“At the minute we seem to struggle to win a header on the pitch and we need to sort that out,” said Millwall boss Holloway, whose team are third from bottom.

Secret

“It’s vital the boys realise I’ve been given the job to save this club. We have to make some decisions very, very quickly and try and add some new players because the secret is from the outside rather than from within.

“There are a number of elements I need to put right because the nervousness and worry seems to be anytime anyone gets near our goal.”

Ollie added: “I believe I’m totally at the right place and I’m going to work to make it better.

“We need to be a little more physical, a little more at it – and some of the lads need to realise that. I’m not going to give up, ever.”
