COUNTDOWN TO THE FINALS HARRY WANTS TO GET EURO BOOT Shearer: Kane can win goal honour

Sort a new deal – or lose Chris

ROBBIE SAVAGE has warned Wales they risk losing Chris Coleman to club football after Euro 2016 unless they secure his future.

Coleman (right) is out of contract in July after the finals. So far negotiations with the FA of Wales have stalled with the he manager claiming he and the FAW are “apart” in talks over a new deal.

Savage believes that is madness – and has urged Welsh bosses to get a new contract sorted out. “It’s a worry for me,” said Savage. “For how well he’s done I am sure Premier League and Championship clubs will be calling for Chris.

“Wales should now say we’ve got a manager who has taken us to a tourn tournament, let’s push the boat out and giveg him what he w wants.”

Former Wales strikerst John Ha Hartson agrees ColemanColem should be locked in for the 2018 World Cup campaign which begins in September.

“They should be giving him an offer he can’t turn down,” he said. “But we don’t know if he wants to go back to club football.” ALAN SHEARER reckons Harry Kane could be the first English striker to win a tournament Golden Boot since he nailed it at Euro 96.

Geordie hero Shearer scored five goals and took the honour as top scorer, 10 years after Gary Lineker won his Golden Boot at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

And Shearer believes Tottenham hot-shot Kane could make it an English hat-trick next month.

Shearer said: “There’s no reason why not with the form Harry Kane’s in. I’m sure that’s what he’s looking to do. When I spoke to him recently his answer was the same, ‘Why not?’ He has the ability, he’s had a fantastic season.

“It was a bit disappointingpointing at the end for him missingsing out on the league title. But goal-scoring oal-scoring wise and form wise he’ll go into t he t ournament f ull of confidence.

“How many he scoresres depends on whetherr he gets the great service I got in 1996. That’s the big thing. They’re going to have to get to at least the semifinals for him to have a chance of getting the Golden Boot.”

BBC pundit Shearer believes Kane is not world class yet – but a barnstorming display in France could give him superstar status.

The Newcastle legend added: “Right now only Joe Hart’s one of the best in the world in his position.

Strong

“At this moment in time you wouldn’t judge Kane as world class, but he’s got a great opportunity to put himself into that bracket. “I like everything about him. He’s got a bit of everything. He’s had to work to get where he is. He hasn’t had anything easy. Which tells me he’s mentally strong.” Shearer also reckons gaffer Roy Hodgson should take Manchester United kid Marcus Rashford to France. The 18-year-old (left) has been invited to train with the seniors in the build-up. Hodgson names his initial 23-man squad plus standbys tomorrow ahead of his final pick on May 31 – 11 days before England’s opener with Russia in Marseille.

He said: “He’s been one of the few positives for one of the world’s biggest football clubs this year.

“His energy, pace – and given the chance in front of goal he hasn’t let anybody down.

“Now Danny Welbeck is injured Rashford is a more realistic option than Andy Carroll. Referees don’t look favourably upon the likes of Andy Carroll at international level. Especially in major tournaments, there’s foul after foul after foul.”

Meanwhile, former Tottneham star Jermaine Jenas is convinced England’s Tottenham contingent will not have a title hangover after losing the race with Leicester.

He said: “You can’t judge Spurs on how they’re feeling now. Obviously they are disappointed. But it’s not about their legs. When you’ve that drive of chasing for the championship, you don’t get tired.” *The BBC will provide extensive coverage of Euro 2016 across TV, radio and online from Friday, June 10
