HOLLYWOOD legend Dick Van Dyke is to lead a fund-raising drive to save the home where he grew up as “a mid-Western nerd”.

Dick, 90, will make two appearances in Danville, Illinois, next month.

The star of the 1960s Dick Van Dyke Show said he grew up thinking Danville was the centre of the universe and still does.

A number of well-known entertainers grew up in Danville, including The French Connection actor Gene Hackman, 86.
