STORIES of sex, death and triumph over adversity hit our screens tomorrow – yes, Springwatch is back.

Four times a week from 8pm over the next three weeks, BBC2 will broadcast live from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds sanctuary at Minsmere, Suffolk.

More than two million viewers are hooked on the annual series, which started in 2005.

This time Michaela Strachan, Chris Packham and Martin Hughes-Games will follow the fortunes of favourites such as golden eagles, puffins and owls.

Michaela, 50, said: “Each spring a wildlife soap opera unfolds before our eyes.

“The beauty of Springwatch is that it’s very accessible. If we ask people to help blue tits in their garden, they can.”

Springwatch, with Au t u m n w a t c h and Winterwatch, is the BBC’s biggest outside broadcast, with 100 crew and 50 cameras working around the clock.

Michaela, who joined in 2011, said wildlife is so unpredictable, they have no idea what film will be used till just before going live.

“Even after the dress run, something can happen and everything is up in the air,” she said. “It’s like a jigsaw where someone is constantly taking a piece away.

“That’s why I love it so much – the wildlife writes the story.”
