Docs who did wrong op let off’

-

BUNGLING doctors who operated on the wrong patient have avoided being axed or referred to the General Medical Council.

The error at the showpiece Great Western Hospital in Swindon, Wilts, last August was blamed on an “identification error”.

The botched endoscopy was only made public months later in a Care Quality Commission report. And the reason for the blunder was revealed in Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation board papers at the start of April.

Yesterday, in response to request under Freedom of Information laws, the trust said that from April 2015 to this March no doctors had been dismissed, asked to resign or referred to the General Medical Council.

The trust added: “We do not want to comment on this.”
