‘ BBC banned Rotten for Savile truth’

- By Karen Rockett

SEX Pistol Johnny Rotten has claimed the BBC “blacklisted” him for trying to blow the whistle on pervert Jimmy Savile.

The punk star, 60, said he was always suspicious of the “creepy” presenter.

But he claimed: “If you said anything you’d be off the playlists.

“First-hand experiences were reiterated to me by young girls who went to Top of the Pops and said he was touchy, feely, creepy, urgh – Doctor Death.

“I told them to report it. But it would have been seen as grassing.” Rotten, real name Lydon, said he spoke out in 1978 in an interview with Radio 1, in which he called Savile a “hypocrite, into all kinds of seediness we’re not allowed to talk about”.

That part of the interview was never broadcast.

The Pistols were seen as outrageous and Savile was a respected entertainer. But hundreds of abuse allegations came after he died in 2011. Lydon added: “I knew all about it and said so and got banned from the BBC. Family values, eh?”
