New tech penny not dropping at the tills

- By Stephen Hayward

SHOPPERS still don’t trust fast contactless payments and prefer old-fashioned cash and chip and pin.

Nearly three quarters of Brits believe using apps and waving their cards and phones in front of readers is less secure.

A survey revealed using traditional cards is the most popular way to buy because it is easier to monitor and seen as being safer.

Shoppers in Manchester, Newcastle, Cardiff and London are more likely to use contactless cards, which allows you to pay for things up to £30.

People in Aberystwyth are less convinced, with three- quarters of those polled worried about paying for things online and being scammed.

Ewan Olgivie, of ATM firm YourCash, which ran the study, said: “Despite being a tech-loving country, Brits are still dubious about mobile payments because of security concerns.

“They are reluctant to ditch cash completely.” ANIMAL welfare worker Jane Howorth, 55, put feathers from her hens in her bra so they were with her when the Queen made her an MBE.
