Jobs for the week
1. Deadly sex drive
Codling moths, which damage apples and pears, can be controlled by hanging traps in trees. These contain a hormonal sex attractant. Male moths who are driven by instinct to look for a mate get stuck and die on the female-scented sticky pad.
2. In the frame
Sow spring flowering forget-menots, primulas, pansies, bellis daisies, violas and wallflowers in a cold frame to have plants that are ready for planting out when September arrives.
3. Feeling unhinged
When training climbers on to walls that need a regular paint, fix a wooden trellis, with hooks at the top and hinges at the bottom, so it can be laid on the ground while the job is done.
