RASH’S RISE IS WEL DONE

-

A LOT of people think Marcus Rashford’s rise to prominence means the end of Daniel Sturridge’s hopes of going to Euro 2016. But the reality is we’re back to where we were when Danny Welbeck was in contention and the Manchester United youngster wasn’t. Roy Hodgson would probably have taken five – Welbeck, Sturridge, Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Wayne Rooney – and I don’t think anything will have changed. So for me Rashford will be in for Welbeck with Fabian Delph, Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater left behind. I’m struggling to see what Barkley does. He’s in there for what he potentially can do rather than what he has been doing, whereas Andros Townsend at the tail-end of the season has been impressive. When he came on against Australia on Friday night at the Stadium of Light he was really switched on. He wanted the ball, he ran at people, he looks svelte and very sharp. I see more guarantees from Townsend in the next month than from Barkley.
