EMMERDALE was named Best British Soap for the first time last night.

The accolade at the British Soap Awards followed Emmerdale’s Kevin Fletcher, who plays Andy Sugden, blasting the ceremony last week for never having honoured the show properly.

He said: “Every producer aims to win critical acclaim and prizes. That’s what they go for.”

The award at the bash at Hackney Town Hall, East London, delighted other Emmerdale stars including Danny Miller, right.

But stunning actresses like Hollyoaks’s Gemma Atkinson, left, monopolised attention on the red carpet.

Kym Marsh, who plays Michelle Connor i n Coronation Street, busted out in a Jessica Rabbitinspired red strapless gown.

EastEnder Lacy Turner was glowing in a yellow dress. Co-star Bonnie Langford was elegant in black and white.

And hanging tough with them was the Queen Vic’s landlord Danny Dyer.

Corrie’s Alan Halsall and wife Lucy-Jo Hudson couldn’t have looked happier in one of their first public appearances since mending their marriage..
