Bellew slams Haye ‘clowns’
TONY BELLEW has blasted David Haye for “degrading boxing” with his two comeback fights against Mark De Mori and Arnold Gjergjaj.
And Scouser Bellew (above) – who challenges Ilunga Makabu for the WBC cruiserweight title at Goodison Park this evening – says that once he has unified the cruiserweight division he’d love a fight with Haye, “that bitch from Bermondsey”.
Bellew, 33, said: “What David Haye is doing at the moment is degrading boxing. David’s better than that and he knows it.
“He wouldn’t use that guy [De Mori] as a sparring partner because of his head coming off in the gym, so how can justify putting that on TV? David is possibly the quickest and most dangerous heavyweight in the world – and he’s fighting a guy who learned to box off YouTube. You’re having a laugh.
“And that last fella looked like Lurch from the Addams Family. Going down off a jab and looking at the ref to help. It makes a mockery of the game.
“The minute this Makabu fight stops I’ll plan the unification – there’ll be no handpicking clowns. Then... let’s fight some heavyweights.
“I’ll fight that bitch from Bermondsey, as long as he makes his natural weight.” Bellew v Makabu today from 6pm, Sky Sports 1.
