TROY DEENEY and Odion Ighalo proved their goalscoring exploits last season were no fluke as they struck for WATFORD against Lorient. The strikers bagged 32 goals between them last term and combined again in the 2-2 draw with the French side. Deeney (above) fired the Hornets ahead on the stroke of half-time before Ighalo made it 2-0 just before the hour. The visitors fought back to grab a draw but Ighalo said: “Goals breed confidence and I always try to give my best. “I’m happy to score, but most importantly it’s about the team performance. “We can’t wait for the season to get started now.” CRYSTAL PALACE striker Connor Wickham is hoping his pre-season form can earn him a place in the first team. The Eagles have been linked a big-money move for a forward but Wickham, who scored twice against Valencia, aims to keep his place. “It’s good to be back and get on the scoresheet today, and hopefully I’ll continue that form in the league,” he said after the 3-1 win. “We still have a lot to work on but we’re there or there abouts now.” Managerless HULL slipped to a 2-1 defeat to Italian side Torino in Austria. Abel Hernandez equalised for the Tigers before Cesare Bovo scored the decisive goal following Andrea Belotti’s first-half strike. STOKE slipped to a 1-0 loss at Hamburg, Michael Gregoritsch scoring the only goal, while Jay Fulton was the hero for SWANSEA, the young midfielder hitting the only goal in the win over Rennes.
