- By Geraldine McKelvie

A RELIEVED mum has praised her pet pooch after he helped save her little girl’s life.

Labrador Baxter raised the alarm after Olivia Goodman, six, started choking during a seizure.

The nine-month-old dog pulled a blanket away to stop her suffocating.

Amanda was close by but did not realise her daughter was in trouble until Baxter began barking.

Amanda, 32, said: “If it hadn’t been for Baxter I don’t know what would have happened.

“Olivia hadn’t been well and was sent home from school early.

“I tucked her up on the couch to let her rest. However, I didn’t notice that she’d had a seizure and had been sick. She was choking on her vomit.

“As soon as it started, Baxter began barking, which isn’t like him.

“I told him to be quiet because I didn’t want him to wake Olivia up but instead he got louder.

“He pulled at the cover, which I’d put over Olivia to keep her warm. I realised she was having a fit and the pillow was blocking her airway.

“It was the scariest day of my life and I’m just so thankful Baxter was here. He saved Olivia’s life.”

She was rushed to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after the terrifying six-minute seizure.

Olivia was kept in overnight but has since made a full recovery.

And clever Baxter has been recognised for his role in saving her life with a nomination in the Hero Animal of the Year category at the upcoming Animal Hero Awards.

The annual awards are organised by the our sister paper Daily Mirror in association with the RSPCA.

Olivia, from Renfrew, near Glasgow, said: “Baxter is a hero. I love him.”

Dad Stuart, 36, said Baxter’s heroics had made him an even more special family member.

He added: “We’ve had him since he was a pup. We love him even more now. We all think he’s an amazing dog and we’re lucky to have him.” WE are worried about care of our rabbit’s teeth. Do they all need to have their teeth clipped?
