Brotherly love-in at the Palace
CASHTON VILLA
LOVE the tale about Christian Benteke’s brother signing for Crystal Palace.
Had nothing to do with the big forward’s move from Liverpool – none at all.
Conversation probably went something like this with the on-off transfer:
Palace: Do you fancy coming, then? Growing club in London needs a big centre-forward like you...
Benteke (below): Not fussed. I’m at Liverpool on good money.
Palace: Yeah, but you’re not playing. You’ll play here.
Benteke: I’m at Liverpool on good money. I’ll get a chance sooner or later.
Palace: Look, we’ll match your money. Anything else we can do?
Benteke: I could be lonely. Big city, London. Can you fix up my brother with a job?
Palace: We’ll see. What’s his profession?
Benteke: He’s a footballer. Twenty-one years old, sub for a nondescript Belgian team. Scored two in two last season. Well, two in the two matches he played and the umpteen sub appearances..
Palace: If we agree to that, will you come?
Benteke: Yeah, sure.... WANT more evidence of the fact English football has gone money mad? Championship big-hitters Aston Villa have spent more money than Real Madrid this summer – and currently lie beneath Burton Albion.
