SHERLOCK star Martin Freeman gets to grips with a raunchy new role.

The actor, who plays Dr Watson opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in the BBC hit, shot steamy sex scenes with actress Stephanie Drapeau for US crime drama StartUp.

Martin, 44, plays corrupt FBI agent Phil Rask. His character is a wild departure from his previous mild roles, which include The Office and A CONMAN jailed for swindling £41,000 while working at medical charities is now being allowed to work as an NHS ambulance driver. Richard Bobath, 54, served almost two years for fraud after duping the British Polio Fellowship, which helps desperately sick people, and the British I nstitute of Radiology. But since his release, Bobath, of Gerrards Cross, Bucks, has landed a taxpayerfunded job ferrying patients to and from hospital for South Central Ambulance Service. He works eight- hour shifts at The Hobbit. An insider said: ”It’s a complete change for Martin. His character is a complete b****** and this sex scene is just not something you would expect to see him doing.”

The romp with Drapeau, his onscreen wife, features in the first episode. But critics reckon the amount of sex in the show is a turn-off.

StartUp is available online on Sony’s streaming service Crackle. Chalfont St Peter ambulance station. The NHS trust revealed it was aware of Bobath had a conviction, against which he is currently appealing.

But a source said the decision to hire him was met with “disbelief” by colleagues. The insider said: “It’s remarkable that someone with such a serious conviction could be given such a responsibility.

“Many of his colleagues are very angry. They feel that until the matter is resolved he should not be working in such a role.”

Isleworth Crown Court in West London was told Bobath had jobs controlling the financial affairs of both charities. He ex- ploited lax controls to transfer thousands of pounds to his own account or abuse banks cards to pay for lavish foreign trips.

At the British Polio Fellowship he persuaded an elderly trustee to sign a bank mandate in his favour. The judge told the married father of two: “You are not in the slightest bit remorseful.”

A spokesman for the NHS said: “We are fully aware of a conviction and have been working with our staff member to understand the position, which included carrying out all necessary risk assessments required of us.”
