Jack’s vow to silence doubters

-

JACK WILSHERE has vowed to prove the critics wrong over his fitness.

The midfielder came off the bench to inspire BOURNEMOUTH to a 1-0 victory against WEST BROM.

Wilshere is on a season-long loan from Arsenal where he has been dogged by injuries.

It is hoped a stint on the south coast can kick-start his career.

“My biggest goal is to get as many games as possible,” said Wilshere, who came on as a substitute just after the hour.

“If there is a question mark about me I know that it’s my fitness, so I hope to get as many minutes in, prove everyone wrong and re-kick my career.

“I’m feeling better with each training session. The sessions are intense and I’m getting up to speed.

“A big reason I came here was the manager and his philosophy. To pass the ball and keep the ball and that’s want I want to do.

“He’s a great coach. I’ve been working here for 10 days. The training is hard and intense but that’s what I need now.

Plan

“It was a good win for us and it was good for me to come on and get my first minutes and get used to how the lads play.

“I spoke with the manager during the week and he’s got a plan for me so I was happy to be on the bench.”

Daniel Sturridge admitted he needs to be more clinical despite LIVERPOOL thrashing champions LEICESTER 4-1.

Roberto Firmino scored twice with Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana also finding the net.

The England striker produced a stunning backheel for Mane’s goal but was unhappy he did not get on the scoresheet.

“I was starting as a centre-forward, I’m still not as clinical as I should be, but I take it on the chin and get on with it,” Sturridge said.

“We worked hard, it was important to come out and show the fans we can beat the champions, and perform week-inweek-out at the highest level.

“For me it is all about making runs, as long as players are making movements and giving you the opportunities. I like to make runs to make space but it was a great run from Mane to make space for me.”
