Boyzone Ronan hits out at ‘ injecting rat poison’

RONAN Keating has blasted celebs such as Simon Cowell for using Botox to keep looking young.

The ex Boyzone star believes those injected with the chemical filler, which he branded “rat poison”, look absurd.

The youthful-looking singer said: “I don’t believe in Botox in any shape or form. I think it’s awful for anyone – men and women.

“I think it’s hideous. I know some people feel like they have to, fair enough. I gather rat poison is being injected into your face.”

And in what may seem a thinly veiled swipe at X Factor supremo Cowell, Keating said: “I don’t know if Simon Cowell does it or not but people look ridiculous when they use it.”

Handsome

Last year Cowell, 56, admitted: “I probably did have a little too much Botox a couple of years ago, because everyone on TV has it. Hopefully I look better now.”

Keating, 39, drinks plenty of water, stays fit, eats well and occasionally moisturises to keep his looks.

He said: “I understand women may feel they need to do it to stay young, each to their own. Men can be really lucky in the way they can age.

“Look a t Steve McQueen, Clint Eastwood, Paul Newman and Robert Redford, these classic men have character with their lines. They’re handsome men.”

Life in general is looking good for Keating who has just bought a mansion in Hertfordshire and, last month, celebrated his first wedding anniver- sary with Storm Uechtritz, 34. And he has such a good relationship with his three kids from his 17-year marriage to model Yvonne Connolly, 42, that he is broody to have more. It is little wonder his 10th album and current UK tour is called Time Of My Life. He said: “We’d love more children. But we have to take each day as it comes. Married life with Storm is bliss.” Keating has such a strong bond with his kids that Jack, 17, was best man and Missy, 15, and Ali, 12, were bridesmaids at his lavish wedding at a luxury estate in East Lothian. He said: “I like to think I’m a really good dad, I’m not overly strict with them, I’m in their lives all the time. “I’m very proud of the three great human beings my kids are, they’re growing up so fast. They’re hilarious and so unique.” Keating, who split with Yvonne in 2010 after an aff affair with dancer Francine Cornell, th thinks he has found the key to a happy marriage. His divo divorce was finalised in 2015 and he said he and Storm sometim sometimes switch off mobiles to give each other undivided attention. He said: “On holiday in Cornwall together, walking on the beac beach with our pug puppy A Aussie is my idea of pure relaxation. It’s bliss. We walked together for hours without our phones on, enjoying peace and quiet and each other’s company. I think it shows how in tune we are.”

The couple met four years ago when Keating was a judge on Australia’s X Factor.

It has not always been a happy time for the crooner, one of five siblings who grew up in Dublin and became the lead singer of one of the 90s most successful boybands.

In 1998 he suffered heartbreak when his beloved mum Marie died of breast cancer.

Five years later Keating was devastated by the sudden death of ex bandmate Stephen Gately, 33, in Majorca. A postmortem revealed he had fluid on his lungs.

Since leaving Boyzone in 1999, Keating has sold over 20 million albums and had a string of hits including Life Is A Rollercoaster and When You Say Nothing At All, which featured in the hit film Notting Hill.

Buzz

He dedicated his album Time Of My Life to his new wife but said: “I get a lump in my throat singing some of the songs and I’m hoping to move people in the same way.”

Fans can still see him on his current tour but he said his partying days are long gone.

He said: “I definitely cut back on alcohol when I’m on tour. It’s vital to protect your voice. I like to wind down with a glass of wine after a show after such a buzz on stage. You can’t go on big drinking sessions.”

But he is planning a big bash for his 40th in March. He said: “I want to make the most of it. I still feel 20, I can’t believe I’m almost double that. I want to enjoy it by eating good food, drinking fine wine and playing some golf. Hanging out with family and friends.”

He keeps in regular contact with his former bandmatesb – Keith Duffy, 41, Mikey Graham, 44, and Shane Lynch, 40.

Keith has teamed up with ex Westlife singer Brian McFadden, 36, to a create Westlife and Boyzone supergroup, Boyzlife. He said: “I wishw Keith and Brian the best with Boyzlife. Life is too short to be holding grudges and beb bitter. I’m not that sort of character at all.

“I believe in letting everyone get on and do well in their life. If you have an opportunity go and do it. Why pull somebody down becauseb of an opportunity they have? I love to see others do well.”
