Eddie has his hand on trigger

RUGBY UNION: Autumn series

- By Adam Hathaway

DANNY CARE has revealed Eddie Jones has a sniper’s approach to training – and only gives them one shot in practice.

But his methods have worked as England have built a nine-match winning streak under the Aussie coach (above).

Scrum-half Care has just returned from a week-long camp in Portugal where Jones put the squad through their paces ahead of Saturday’s Autumn international opener against South Africa.

Judo was back on the menu despite the broken leg suffered by Wasps flanker Sam Jones at the infamous Brighton camp recently.

And Care, 29, said Jones has a one-shot policy on the training paddock, so the rehearsals are even tougher than Test rugby.

He said: “In practice it is one shot, one kill. You get one chance to nail a lineout to win the game.

“If you mess it up that is the end of training and you have to live with that, and go and watch the video and work out why you did it wrong.

“It is cut-throat, but it is the same as what it is like on a Saturday – you very rarely get second chances. It is as realistic as possible.

“Eddie puts you under mental pressure as we have to be mentally and physically ready to face South Africa.”

England have not beaten the Boks since 2006 – a miserable run of 11 defeats and a draw.

Care added: “It is hard to pinpoint one thing, but to put it bluntly we have not played well enough against them.

“We have got to put in a full 80-minute performance this time.”
