Hiddles’ big hit and hiss

- Vikki White

IT is the latest tale about the terrifying king of the apes – but Tom Hiddleston faced even greater dangers filming Kong: Skull Island.

The actor revealed he headed deep into the Australian jungle with co-star Brie Larson for scenes, where they came face-to-face with killer snakes and spiders.

Tom said: “Queensland has the highest concentration of dangerous animals in the world – knowing we were in these real jungles made it more atmospheric.

“We were taken around by a security officer who said, ‘There are funnel-web spiders, brown snakes and there are plants, we called them a wait- a- while plants because if you come into contact with it with your bare skin, you’ll wait a while and need to be rushed to the emergency unit.

“We saw a brown snake and the webs of funnel-web spiders. But we loved it.”

Tom, 36, threw himself into gruelling training for his role as SAS operative Conrad in the movie, out on Friday.

He said: “I trained with two former British Royal Marines and one former US Navy Seal. I feel it’s my duty if I’m playing a soldier to make some strides to replicating the fitness soldiers have to match.

“I see it as a condition of my job to be in excellent physical health, especially for a film like this. It required stamina and a lot of running, climbing and fighting.”
