Booming grooming

- By Rachel Spencer

DOGS are being preened with pedicures and plastered with perfume and make-up in a bid to become Facebook famous.

It began with Grumpy the cat and Boo the pomeranian, who have both had long careers in the social media limelight. Now it seems everyone wants to glam up.

Groomer J ackie Buttle, who s el l s grooming products from the website Plush Puppy, has noticed products once used only for show dogs have crossed over into the mainstream.

She said: “Things like Pixie Dust that were usually for show dogs to give a glimmer and a sparkle are now popular with regular pet owners.”

The trend has given a boost to the market in pet beauty products.

Dog groomer Vicky Haywood, 41, who runs Vic’s Dog Grooming Salon and Boutique in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, does “paw- dicures” in 14 different colours using pet friendly OUR vet Brian Faulkner, from Petplan, has 16 years of experience and is a freelance working all over the country. Send your questions to Brian at: Petplan, Great West House, Great West Road, Brentford, Middlesex, TW8 9DX or via Petplan’s Facebook page facebook.com/ PetplanUK. polish. And she uses her six-month-old pug Daisy as a model.

She said: “It’s popular with the smaller dogs like pugs, pomeranians and chihuahuas. I do the paw-dicures as part of a full groom.

“The dog will have their nails clipped and I give them a paw massage with a treatment made of aloe vera and beeswax. Daisy absolutely loves having her paws painted.”

For pooch perfume, The Pawfume Shop sells camomile and al oe v era- based fragrances that are kind to fur and skin and last for up to three days. Katy Rehm, 36, a dog groomer f r om Formby, Merseyside, created the range, which includes Dog in a Million that smells like Paco Rabanne’s 1 Million, and cKnine, a doggy version of the scent CK One.

Katy, who wanted her dog Sherry to smell just like her, said: “It started as a bit of a joke but now I have 12 fragrances.

“People don’t just want their dogs to look good but to smell nice too.” MY cat is sneezing a lot and her breathing also sounds rasped. What do you think could be wrong with her?
