SELFIE DAREDEVIL FIGHTING FOR LIFE
Train photo lad found beside tracks
A BRITISH backpacker took a selfie hanging out the window of a moving train – two days before he was found lying unconscious beside a rail track.
Daredevil Daniel Clark, 20, posted a photo on Facebook of himself laughingly sticking his tongue out as the wind from the train’s speed buffeted his hair.
Along with the snap taken in rural Thailand he wrote: “Living it large in Asia!! F***ing loving it!”
The selfie – which showed another young man grinning and leaning out of the next window along the carriage – was posted on 6.30pm on Thursday, several days into a trip around the country.
At 9.50am yesterday he was spotted lying beside a stretch of track by the driver of a passing train in Chumphon Province, a southern coastal district.
Daniel, from Aldershot, Hants, was rushed to hospital for surgery on head and leg injuries. Docs said X-rays showed he had not suffered brain damage.
Police spokesman Lieutenant Theerayuth Channok said: “Daniel had blood coming from his nose and mouth. He is in intensive care.” Last night it was still unclear what happened to Daniel or how he came to be where he was found, though it is believed he had boarded a south- bound train in Thai capital Bangkok on Friday night.
Nobody had raised the alarm although Facebook posts, including one of him feeding an elephant on Friday afternoon, suggested he was travelling with at least one Western pal.
Trains are popular with backpackers in Thailand because tickets cost as little as 20p but many are old and have windows and doors open to the outside.
