Mourinho lets rip at strikeforce

- By Neil Moxley

JOSE MOURINHO laid into his misfiring MANCHESTER UNITED strikers after another Old Trafford stalemate tipped him over the edge.

The Portuguese took out his frustration over a 0-0 draw with WEST BROM on Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial.

It was United’s eighth home goalless draw at in 15 games and Mourinho said: “This was more of the same. We have had a lot of this. Total control. Amazing defensive performance. Very good, very solid. But in the last third the goals didn’t come. It was deja vu.

“At this level, teams need to be consistent. Today, for 90 minutes Valencia was, Young was, Rojo was, Bailly was, Fellaini was, Carrick was, The others were not. They were a flash of talent. A glimpse of action. Almost goals.

“When you score one against these teams we don’t win 1-0. We win 3-0 or 4-0. But we miss chances. We have periods where we push but a couple of players disappear. Always the same guys. Always the same guys in front of the train, pulling the train.

“If you see how many goals we score in relation to our dominancy, it’s a big contradiction. How many goals have Rashford, Lingard, Mkhitarayan and Martial scored? Zlatan and Mata are the ones with more goals.”

CHELSEA boss Antonio Conte was also frustrated after his leaders went ahead against CRYSTAL PALACE after four minutes only to ship two goals in two minutes and fail to score despite dominating the rest of the game.

The 2-1 defeat offers some hope to the chasing pack, especially with Chelsea playing Manchester City on Wednesday and Conte said: “We deserved at least to draw. I don’t want to say ‘win’. We created many chances, we dominated against a team that’s very strong and, yes, it’s a pity, but it wasn’t our day. For sure that makes the title race a bit more interesting.”

HULL grabbed a lifeline by battling back to beat WEST HAM 2-1 to give themselves sight of the safety line while the Hammers’ fourth defeat on the spin gave them relegation concerns of their own.
