IT’S A MAGIC WEEKEND
Trinity’s ruthless Marvels
WAKEFIELD coach Chris Chester warns there is more to come from Super League’s overachievers – after his Spidermen cast their web over disappointing Widnes.
Playing in special one-off Marvel comic shirts, Trinity overwhelmed a Vikings side that fielded Rangi Chase for the first time since his loan switch from Castleford.
But Chase was completely overshadowed by the likes of two-try Scott Grix, while the entire Wakefield pack was outstanding.
Chester said: “I don’t think we’ve quite hit our straps yet – there’s a lot more in us.
“We’ve put ourselves in a real good position to finish in that top six, which is what the goal was at the start of the season.
“I thought we were pretty ruthless – we strangled them for field position and kicked the ball really well.”
Wakefield were 16-0 ahead at the break after two tries from full-back Grix and one by centre Reece Lyne, while Widnes had Lloyd White sin-binned for a dangerous tackle.
It got worse for the Vikings when Ben JonesBishop touched down less than two minutes after the restart before Dennis Betts’ side finally stirred.
Youngsters Jordan Johnstone and Ed Chamberlain combined for the excellent Ryan Ince to finish – but that was as close as it got.
Jones-Bishop provided another smart finish in the corner and Matty Ashurst capitalised on one of several Widnes mistakes, condemning Hep Cahill’s late effort to scant consolation.
Betts admitted: “We were good in patches – but poor in others.”
